SCMG – Who are the members of your band?
At the moment, it’s just me and my guitar. In the future, I would like to add a band to perform with!
SCMG – What genre do you consider yourself?
I consider myself as a Singer/Songwriter that straddles the line of a folk/indie sound. I don’t necessarily like to limit myself when it comes to genre though. I just want to touch and inspire those listening to my music. When they hear my album I want them to truly feel it and get something out of it!
SCMG – What was your biggest accomplishment in 2017?
I was able to perform at the S.C. Teacher of the Year conference in Columbia, S.C. after winning the This School’s Got Talent competition sponsored by Comporium. I entered my original song No More! No More! that is from my new acoustic album titled “Different!” I was judged and picked as a finalist by the judges, some of whom were members of the Grammy award winning group Hootie & The Blow Fish. after statewide voting on the finalists I was named the winner. So I performed on stage, before over 800 teachers, educators and state reps. It was an amazing experience that gave me such a feeling of joy and accomplishment!
SCMG – What are your plans for 2018?
I will be performing regularly at venues all over the Carolinas. I have some connections and possible amazing opportunities on the horizon both here at home, Tennessee and California that I am not at liberty to divulge in at this time but am so excited about the possibilities! I also want to continue furthering my horizons with my music here at PC and perform more often when not studying for my degree in Music Education/Psychology. I continue to write new music regularly and hope to have some more new material out soon!
SCMG – Where and when can we find you?
Most weekdays I’m at Presbyterian College studying or playing my guitar and writing. On the weekends I am playing wherever I have the opportunity and sometimes go home and help my family out at The Ball Theatre in Pageland, SC To hear my music you can subscribe to my channel on You Tube Megan Nicholson, Like my Facebook Page Megan Nicholson Music, and you can find out my show appearances and concerts and other cool things on my web page at www.megannicholson.com. You can purchase my album on I Tunes and Amazon Music. Plus, you can hear me on Pandora and Spotify.
SCMG – Who would you consider your biggest local influence?
In High School I had a wonderful Chorus Teacher, Hannah McGuire, who also writes, sings and performs her own songs with her Contemporary Christian Band, Seventh Vessel. She played an important role in helping me believe in my own musical abilities. It was because of her that I entered the This Schools Got Talent Competition. Also, my mom and Dad who have always supported me showed me their love for music when they performed in churches as I was growing up. My mom passed in August from a rare neurological condition, and she lives on in me and my music has been shaped profoundly through all that has transpired over the 4 years she battled her disease. (SCMG – We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family.)
SCMG – What would they say about you?
Well I know my teacher would probably say I was unsure of myself at first, but would also say she is proud of the growth she has seen in me. There was a time when I was so shy I wouldn’t have even tried out for a solo in my High School Chorus. I began suffering from anxiety in middle school, and that has been hard at times trying to perform with that aspect in my life. As far as my Dad, he is so supportive and helps me in every way. I joke and call him my roadie since he does about anything and everything to help me further my dreams of making it in the music industry! My mom I know is so proud and looking down on and over me.
SCMG – Who would you like to work with but haven’t yet had the chance?
It would be super cool to work with Ed Sheeran. I appreciate his writing style and the way he phrases his lyrics. In my eyes he is a songwriting genius and it would be a true dream to create something magical with him!
SCMG – What are your favorite albums of all time from any musician?
“Parachutes”-Coldplay, “Rumors”-Fleetwood Mac, “Plus”-Ed Sheeran, and “1989”-Taylor Swift
SCMG – If you could meet any of your favorite musicians, who would you choose and why?
Hands down I would choose Stevie Nicks. I feel like she has had so much experience in the industry, good and bad, that she would be able to fill me in on what to do and not to do as far as my music career goes. She just seems like such a wise and chill lady and I would love to hear all she had to say.
A lifetime of music addiction and appreciation has led Stephanie to her passion of live music photography and the entertainment industry. Having a particular interest in exceptional guitar work, she is best known for introducing her kids to Steve Vai’s and Yngwie Malmsteen’s talent in an effort to promote musical discovery to a new generation.
