About Us

The South Carolina Music Guide is a web-based music publication with a primary focus on the independent music scene in South Carolina.   Emphasis is placed upon original music produced by the South Carolina based artist, with a focus on music related articles, album reviews, show reviews, and audio/visual media.  Additionally, The South Carolina Music Guide also draws attention to many of the various venues within its borders and the touring musicians that pass through the state.

Mike Van Houten
Founder
Mike has been involved off and on in some capacity with music over the last 20 plus years. As a drummer, he has toured regionally, slogged equipment, and helped manage the fates of former band members. Currently, Mike has put aside his future of being a full-time bona fide rock star in order to help folks become aware of the great independent music that exists in South Carolina today.

Sean Knight
Senior Contributor / Team Lead
Sean Knight is a native South Carolinian who has spent his life bouncing back and forth between SC and Texas, playing in bands you probably never heard of in both states and stinking up open-mic nights in the Low Country for many years. He plays, collects, listens to and probably spends too much of his life obsessing over music.
